Vitamin C reduces vaccine side effects!

The topic of vaccination is big. Instead of arguing all the reasons why you should or shouldn't be vaccinated I'm going to talk about something different. Something that probably needs to be talked about more. Vaccine side effects are a very real thing. Nobody wants to experience them! Along with disease. None of us want to get sick or be affected for the rest of our lives by that sickness. Thankfully there are a few steps you can take to decrease vaccine side effects and disease! :)

If you or your loved one, infant or child, have chosen to be vaccinated there are a few steps you can take to reduce vaccine side effects.

Several studies have been done to test the effectiveness of taking vitamin C to reduce vaccine side effects. One specific study worked extremely well in a group of Aboriginal children and adults! There are so many benefits associated with vitamin C. It's safe for newborns, babies, children, adults, the elderly.. everyone! Captain James Cook was well aware of the powerful benefits of vitamin C and saw the effects of deficiency, namely scurvy, "the plague of the sea" ...which eventually leads to death... eeek! :(

To put it simply, vitamin C is a toxin-neutralising antibody-stimulating antioxidant! :)

You want your immune system happy and strong prior to having a vaccination. The immune system of an infant is still developing, so it's quite fragile and often weaker than that of an adult's immune system.

Probiotics

Quality probiotics are an excellent and safe way to boost the immune system. Always remember 70-80% of your immunity lies in your gut. Your gut flora! Begin taking a high strength probiotic 1 month prior to vaccination. Look for products that contain a variety of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains. Strains that have been backed by clinical trials or are evidence-based. Probiotics are a must for anyone with digestive complaints, eczema, asthma, mood disorders or poor immunity. There are some fantastic options out there!

Which vitamin C?

Liposomal vitamin C is a beautiful form of vitamin C. It is easy to administer and guarantees superior absorption. The next best thing is sodium ascorbate. Non-acidic and gentle on the stomach. Ascorbic acid is pure and quite strong. Best for older children and adults.

How much vitamin C?

Five days prior to vaccination take vitamin C in divided doses. It's best to have the dosages spread out throughout the day. Take vitamin C to bowel tolerance. By bowel tolerance, I mean you will start to notice diarrhoea (sometimes flatulence or loose stools). Nothing to be concerned about :). Pull back your dosage by 500-1000mg. Continue taking this dosage until at least 5 days after vaccination. To take sodium ascorbate or ascorbic acid mix a little in juice/water/smoothie or even food.

Vitamin C dosages (rough guide)

Infants under 4.5 kg - 250 mg x day

Infants - 500 mg x day

Children - 1000mg (ages 2 – 4), 2000mg (ages 5 – 8), 4000mg (ages 9 - 12) x day

Teens/Adults - to bowel tolerance (anywhere from 6000mg to 20,000mg x day)

Other things to note...

Vitamin A is also a wonderful immune support. A short loading dose 5 days prior and 5 days after will benefit and support the immune system. Adults take: 100,000IU daily, children 25,000IU - 50,000IU daily.

Immediately after a vaccine wipe the area with alcohol.
