Plant-based foods list

This list is certainly not complete. Living in Mission Beach means I'm always learning new edible plants! SO GOOD :) In the coming weeks I will add another list that covers RAW plant-based foods! This gives you a better idea of what I'm referring to when I say 'plant-based diet'.

  • Fruits like.. blueberries, cranberries, grapefruit, kiwi, lemon, mangoes, orange, papaya, pear, peach, raspberries, strawberries, watermelon etc.

  • Dried fruits like.. bananas, cranberries, dates, figs, raisins, sultanas etc.

  • Fruits (as vegetables) like.. avocado, capsicum, okra, olives, peppers (all types), pumpkin, tomato, zucchini etc.

  • Vegetables.. artichokes, asparagus, basil, beet greens, bok choy, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, collard greens, kale, lettuce (all varieties), mustard greens, parsley, rhubarb, rocket, seaweed (including kelp powder), spinach, spring onion, turnip greens, etc.

  • Root vegetables.. beets, carrots, garlic, ginger, jicama, leeks, onions, potatoes (all varieties), radish, swedes, turnips, etc.; also pearl tapioca

  • Legumes.. adzuki beans, black beans, black-eyed peas, cannellini beans, chickpeas/garbanzo beans, green beans, kidney beans, lentils, lima beans, peanuts, peas, pinto beans, soybeans/edamame, whte beans, tofu etc.

  • Mushrooms

  • Fermented vegetables.. like sauerkraut

  • Nuts.. almonds, cashew, coconut, hazelnut, macadamia, pecan, pine nuts, pistachio, walnuts, etc.

  • Seeds.. flax seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, tahini etc.

  • Whole grains.. amaranth, barley, buckwheat, corn, kamut, millet, oat, quinoa, rye, brown rice, sorghum, spelt, teff, organic wheat etc.

  • Flours.. e.g. oat flour, rye flour, spelt flour, organic wheat flour

  • Herbs.. basil, corriander, dill, mint, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sage, tarragon, thyme etc.

  • Spices.. allspice, black pepper, caraway seeds, cayenne pepper, celery seeds, cinnamon, coriander, cumin, curry powder, garam masala, garlic powder, ginger, Italian seasoning, nutmeg, onion powder, poppy seeds, pumpkin pie spice, paprika, smoked paprika etc.

  • Sweeteners.. agave nectar, coconut nectar, coconut sugar, brown rice syrup, organic sugar, unrefined maple syrup etc.

  • Dairy substitutes.. almond milk, lite coconut milk, rice milk, soy milk, soy yoghurt etc.

  • Egg replacement.. 1 part ground flaxseed/chia seed meal to 3 parts water

  • Other.. baking powder, baking soda, nutritional yeast, mint essential oil (pure), organic chilli sauce, non-GMO miso, organic mustard, pickles, non-fat low-sodium salsa, sea salt, organic tamari, organic tomato sauce, organic vegetable bouillon, vegetable broth, vinegar (e.g. apple cider, balsamic, rice, white), vanilla extract, xanthan gum etc.
